Paul Bettio Wines

There’s a passionate Italian heart beating at the centre of the King Valley in North East Victoria. The foundation of Paul Bettio Wines is family and the Bettio family have been making and enjoying wine for generations. The family settled in the King Valley with many other families of Italian origin, during the 1950’s. Grape growing, winemaking and sharing home-grown and homemade food and wine was (and is) an intrinsic part of rural Italian life. These pleasures were readily transferred to the King Valley.

Daniel Bettio , Paul’s cousin, is the winemaker. Fruit obtained from near ideal growing conditions, allows Daniel to produce natural, fruit driven wines with broad appeal, as well as meticulously crafted wines with complexity and depth. Paul’s philosophy is to make wines that people can enjoy at any time and with any meal. Paul’s grandfather, Emilio, was known to have wine with breakfast! Paul and Helen may not have wine with their cornflakes, but believe the right wine will enhance any meal and their wines embrace this principle with an approachable, appealing style. Daniel extends this precept with a select range of very special wines, eminently suited to special events and occasions.

Paul Bettio’s Unwooded Chardonnay is a refreshing style suited to our long hot summers

The fruit for this wine was sourced from their King Valley vineyards, processed and bottled on the Paul Bettio King Valley Estate.

A “light” vintage occurred in 2006 in the King Valley with early bud loss; fortunately plenty of rain, with a long dry autumn, provided excellent ripe fruit.

The fruit was harvested in the cool of the early morning to minimise oxidation, crushed and lightly pressed. Once settled, the juice was racked from its solids and yeast added to allow 100% fermentation to retain its natural fruit characters.

A fresh, delicate, medium dry wine with stone fruit tones, designed to be consumed as a youngster.
